One of the most important figures to emerge from
the contemporary Italian jazz scene, winner of the
much coveted Massimo Urbani prize, Nico Gori is
also a most welcome voice on one of jazz’s less
played instruments, the clarinet. Firmly anchored in
the bebop tradition but with a penchant for
innovation, Nico’s versatility has led him to become
one of the most sought-after musicians in European
jazz circles (he is member of the Vienna Art
Orchestra, the critically acclaimed Stefano Bollani
New Quintet, and Tiziana Ghiglioni group).
An inspired technician, Nico is also appreciated for a
quiet sensitivity, as witnessed in his rendition of A
child is Born, in a duo with Renato Sellani (Nico
Gori 4tet, Philology Records). This project unites him
with Maltese guitarist Sandro Zerafa, and a rhythm
section composed of Italian bassplayer Mauro
Gargano and French drummer David Georgelet.
Their first CD for doublestroke records, “Alien
in your head’ will be released in December 2007, and features special
guest
Francesco Bearzatti on tenor saxophone.
